Commissioners consent to voluntary annexation of a county roadway into Monroe

Clayton, representing the Town of Monroe, asked commissioners to consent to a voluntary annexation of the eastern half of South Van Buren (the roadway outside Monroe’s corporate limits). He said the town already maintains the road under a deed of permanent right-of-way and seeks the annexation to have the segment reflected on the town’s road inventory for grant purposes.
Commissioners confirmed the annexation would not transfer private property, only the roadway, and that the town already performs maintenance. A commissioner moved, another seconded and the motion passed without recorded opposition.
The board also handled a separate minor subdivision: staff described splitting a 15-acre parcel into three lots (approx. 7, 5.4 and 2.3 acres) and commissioners approved that split.
Next steps: county staff will record the annexation consent and the auditor/recorder will ensure paperwork for the subdivision and annexation are properly filed.
