County updates bridge projects and federal-aid schedule; gas-line locate stalls one replacement

Nate said the county forwarded the county–INDOT agreement for Bridge 96 rehab and INDOT has requested the finalized contract; he advised the board to expect an upcoming notice when the contract is processed. Bridge 27 bid documents were accepted by INDOT and the county expects the project to be included in the state’s July bid packet; the project will be federal-aid, typically at an 80/20 split.
For Bridge 93, staff reported a discrepancy between the gas company’s 811 locate and the county’s field locate; the county found a steel gas line in a different spot than the 811 marking. Nate said the county will re-ticket 811 and contact the gas company directly to resolve the discrepancy because an engineer does not want to excavate extensively for a locate prior to bidding.
Commissioners discussed trade-offs of federal 80/20 projects (local share vs. speed of delivery), noted that having design work and right-of-way in hand can shorten schedules and agreed staff should coordinate with utilities to resolve locate conflicts.
No formal votes were required; staff will continue coordination with INDOT and utilities and report back.
