Hidalgo County commissioners approve $75.8 million in payments, auditor certifies funds

Hidalgo County commissioners approved the county check register and authorized $75,805,901.81 in payments and transfers during their Jan. 6, 2026 session, according to documents submitted by the Hidalgo County Auditor.

The auditor’s memorandum lists $9,074,153.93 in checks and $66,731,747.88 in electronic payments. Electronic payments include wire transfers of $12,000,000.00 for the General Fund, ACH withdrawals totaling $28,616,726.06 across several funds, and bank internal transfers totaling $26,115,021.82.

The consent material breaks the payments down by fund. For example, the General Fund check range totals $4,336,181.47 and the Capital Projects checks total $2,023,205.12. Other specific items listed include Trust & Agency checks of $89,346.15, Payroll checks of $26,585.07, and Urban County checks of $330,237.75. The memo also itemizes large ACH and payroll withdrawals and internal transfers by fund.

"The above mentioned claims have been audited, and I furthermore certify that funds exist within the various county departments and accounts for the payment of said claims," the Hidalgo County Auditor wrote in the submitted memorandum requesting placement on the court’s consent agenda.
