Planada board approves 2023–24 audit, introduces Le Grand superintendent

PLANADA, Calif. — The Planada Elementary School District Board of Trustees approved the district’s 2023–24 fiscal audit and heard an introduction of a neighboring district’s new superintendent at a special meeting Thursday.
On a motion by Trustee Rocio Uviña and seconded by Trustee Leticia Diaz, the board voted to accept the audit presented by LPS Certified Public Accountants; the motion carried 4-0. Bret Harrison and Stephanie Ligtas of LPS presented the audit to the board and business office staff.
Superintendent José L. González introduced Dr. Matthew Roberts as the new superintendent of the Le Grand Union High School District. González also reported that district staff are coordinating with community partners, including Valley Onward, to establish a resource hub for employees who interact directly with the public and to share information related to immigration enforcement concerns.
Christina Murillo, speaking on behalf of the district business office, thanked LPS for their assistance and guidance during the audit process. Trustee Rocio Uviña "thanked and congratulated the business office on a successful audit," and Trustee Yolanda Ramirez commended staff for their hard work.
The board also approved routine consent items, including personnel actions (new hires, transfers, reassignments, resignations and retirements). The personnel consent motion was moved by Trustee Yolanda Ramirez, seconded by Trustee Rocio Uviña and carried 4-0.
Before adjourning to a closed session that addressed pending litigation and public-employee matters, Trustees and staff listed future agenda items. The board met in closed session to receive an update on certificated and classified negotiations and to consult with the district negotiator, Superintendent José L. González. The board reconvened and reported out that there was nothing to report from closed session. The meeting adjourned at 7:04 p.m.
