School committee ratifies paraprofessional and administrative-assistant contracts, accepts MyCAP grant and small donations

The North Reading School Committee on April 13 voted to ratify a three-year paraprofessional contract and an administrative-assistant contract, both presented by district negotiators and approved by the respective employee groups.
Administrators said the paraprofessional agreement includes cost-of-living adjustments across the contract term, an added workday (increasing the annual day count by one) and updates including a wellness bank consistent with earlier teacher agreements. The paraprofessional union ratified the agreement and the committee approved it by a 5–0 vote.
The administrative-assistant contract adds higher steps to the pay scale and clarifies work-week language and nursing-role boundaries; the committee approved the contract 5–0.
On non-contract business the committee accepted two small donations to high-school activities ($35 for baseball and $118.75 for Model UN) and approved acceptance of a $10,000 MyCAP grant to fund work updating vocational-pathway programming and associated stipends for staff running those efforts.
All motions were unanimous; the administration said the MyCAP funding will be used to support staff stipends and program development to expand career and vocational pathways for students.
