A board member told the Madison Local Board of Education on May 12 that the district is exploring an LED retrofit for the stadium’s aging lighting system to reduce high power costs during football games.
“There’s 67 lights and our bill is quite high during a football game,” the board member said, describing lights installed in the mid-1980s and saying work with Positive Energy Electrical Company is under way to analyze LED options that would reduce consumption and costs.
Administrators also updated the board on extracurriculars and facilities. An administration representative reported the girls flag football team advanced to the state championship and thanked the community for its support. The administration noted building-name recommendations collected from the public — “I believe we were just under 200 different recommendations of names” — and said staff will compile top options for the board to review before a naming decision.
The discussion did not include formal approval of the LED project; board members said they will seek more information and bring details back when additional cost and funding information is available.
