Leanne Elanera, principal of Palm View High School, told a La Joya ISD gathering that high‑quality instructional materials (HQIM) are central to ensuring students graduate prepared for life after school.
Elanera said HQIM "ensure[s] access and equity every student, every day, in every classroom," adding that the materials make sure students work with grade‑level texts and assignments that are aligned to the Texas Educator Standards and Support (TESS). She said those materials reduce variability across classrooms and set consistent expectations for student work.
Elanera described practical benefits for teachers, saying HQIM "saves valuable time and reduces the stress of searching for materials or creating assessments from scratch." That time, she said, allows teachers to devote more attention to planning instruction and supporting students.
She also said pairing HQIM with the campus instructional framework and lesson structure has made her a stronger instructional leader by giving her a consistent, research‑based lens for walkthroughs, coaching and feedback. "When our teachers and leaders are all grounded in the same framework, it strengthens alignment, clarity, and growth across our campus," she said.
Elanera concluded that the shared understanding of high‑quality teaching empowers staff to "grow together, to continuously improve and stay focused on what matters most, our student success."
