Mr. Little described operational limitations: the city has a small maintenance crew and frequent absences under union leave rules, and he said new equipment would not replace manpower but would improve capacity to perform tasks the city cannot currently manage.
He told the committee that Treasury requires a commission resolution authorizing acceptance of the grant and the purchase. Committee members expressed support; the item will go to the full commission so the resolution can be authorized and the purchase executed.
In related details, Mr. Little said the city recently spent about $5,000 on a street sweeper that suffered damage because it is not designed for the heavier digging tasks the city needs to perform.
