Sylvania City Council and the mayor proclaimed March 2026 as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month during the March 16 meeting.
Michelle Meerholtz, superintendent of the Lucas County Board of Developmental Disabilities, thanked council and the community for support and noted the city's efforts toward awareness and inclusion. "This month is a national recognition month ... we just very much appreciate the partnership and the support," Meerholtz said. The mayor read a proclamation highlighting the board's mission and historical work and formally declared March 2026 as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month in Sylvania.
Council members and attendees applauded the recognition. The proclamation acknowledges the local history of services dating to early efforts in the 1930s and notes March as nationally recognized for developmental disabilities awareness.
