Town staff reported that Siler City received a voluntary annexation petition from Hampton Village filed April 26 (year stated in the meeting as ’24) and asked the board to approve a resolution directing the town clerk to research and issue findings of sufficiency.
Staff noted Hampton Village had petitioned the board in 2013 and that the board at that time did not complete the annexation process; staff said it would research taxes, utilities, trash service, public safety impacts and other factors and return with detailed information. The town attorney and department chiefs were identified as likely contributors to that review.
A commissioner moved to approve the attached resolution directing the town clerk to review the petition and offer findings of sufficiency; the board approved the resolution by voice vote. Staff said the research would be more involved than previous annexation requests because the property is residential and could affect police, fire, public works and utilities.
Commissioners asked staff to include potential impacts on trash pickup and whether residents currently use county services, and to consult the sheriff’s office and other relevant agencies as part of the review. No final decision on annexation was made; the action directs staff to conduct the sufficiency review required to move the process forward.
