Foxborough: state subsidy announced for Chestnut Street water project; board approves license renewals and New Year's extensions

Town Manager (name not specified in the meeting transcript) said the Chestnut Street water treatment plant improvements project ' described as a $1,250,000 loan ' "will qualify for a subsidy in the amount of $383,500," the manager said, thanking the Department of Public Works for the work that made the subsidy possible. The manager also announced an informational session about the Walnut senior-housing project on Jan. 29 at 2 p.m., urged residents to register because of seating limits, and said the town will continue outreach about the December newsletter and open board seats including a vacancy on the Greater Attleboro Regional Transit Authority board. He reported that Taylor School was not selected this round by the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) for funding and reminded residents about Board of Health Narcan training Dec. 27.
On licensing: the town processed 215 license renewals for 2024'25 across alcohol, common victualler, entertainment and related categories. Katie Lang read the list of licensees aloud; the board moved to approve the 2025 renewals "as read." The board also separately considered extended-hours requests:
- Lake View Pavilion (Steve's Lake View Inc.) received approval to begin alcohol service at 10:00 a.m. on Sundays in 2025, as requested.
- Ambrosia (Ambrosia, 2 Washington Street) requested extending entertainment license hours to 2:00 a.m. for Dec. 31'Jan. 1. Public safety had no objection provided that alcohol service not be extended beyond the usual 1:00 a.m. cutoff and that a police detail be present. The board approved the extended entertainment hours with those caveats and discussed recommended last-call practices to avoid service late on New Year's Eve.
Other routine business: the board approved a short-term committee appointment of Paul Dumis to a regional advisory board (term to May 31, 2025), accepted a $340 donation from Foxville Animal Hustle to help with holiday lights on the town common, approved the Select Board minutes of Dec. 3, 2024, and adjourned with seasonal greetings.
The meeting also included personnel and operational updates: ongoing vacancies in public works and other departments, and an apprenticeship pilot to help address a mechanic staffing shortage in DPW.
