Douglas County approves district court compensation cleanup to preserve bailiffs' step dates

Sher Larson, district court administrator, told the Board of Commissioners on May 12 that amendments to the district court compensation plan are intended to clean up implementation language from a March 3 adoption.
Larson said the changes restore the definition of "essential function" to job descriptions, ensure bailiffs employed as of March 3 retain the same anniversary date (set to July 1) so they stay within the same pay step, and clarify that new hires or transferees to district court will have a step date based on their district court hire date rather than their original county hire date. "In order to clean that up we just want to make sure the steps are within our office," Larson said.
The board moved the item for approval (motion by Rogers; second by Kavanagh) and the motion passed 7–0. The changes were described as corrective housekeeping to reflect the court office's personnel practices; no additional compensation increases or budgetary impacts were reported during the discussion.
