VGCC presents Warren County Transportation Training Hub update, launches regional capital campaign

Vance-Granville Community College on Feb. 16 told the Warren County Economic Development Commission that a planned Transportation Training Hub at Triangle North Warren needs additional capital to meet its construction and program goals.
Dr. Rachel Desmarais, president of VGCC, presented the project budget, timeline and the origins of current shortfalls and said the college is launching a regional capital campaign called "Building Futures: Empowering Students, Strengthening Communities" to close the remaining funding gap. She said the campaign frames the Hub as a regional asset linking manufacturing and logistics employers with workforce training in Warren and neighboring counties.
Dr. Desmarais said local businesses and employers are interested in projects that serve the broader region and that programs now housed on VGCC's main campus would benefit from additional training space in Warren County. The presentation tied the Hub’s purpose to existing workforce and manufacturing partnerships and emphasized regional collaboration with nearby facilities being developed in Granville County.
Chair Claude O'Hagan asked where county-allocated money for the project is currently being held and how any interest is accruing. Dr. Desmarais said she would follow up after the meeting with specific answers and noted that monies originating from the state have strict rules about how they are held and invested.
The board took no formal action on the project at the meeting because a quorum was not present; questions raised will be followed up by college and county staff.
