The Rules Committee approved a resolution authorizing lending transactions that increase Cherokee Nation Businesses’ (CNB) committed credit capacity from about $850 million to $1 billion.
CNB CEO Chuck Garrett told the committee the move is driven by market conditions and CNB’s financial strength. “We are increasing the line of credit available to Cherokee Nation Businesses from roughly 850 million to a billion dollars,” Garrett said, explaining the arrangement gives the company cheaper borrowing costs and room for future acquisitions while preserving liquidity for downturns.
Council discussion was brief and supportive. Council members and the speaker praised staff and the CNB finance team for coordinating a lender syndication and presenting the company’s financials to potential banks. The resolution included authorization for a limited waiver of sovereign immunity to permit the lending transactions. The committee approved the motion by voice vote; no roll-call tally was recorded in the meeting transcript.
What the resolution does: authorizes CNB to enter lending arrangements with a bank syndication, increases the overall line of credit, and permits a limited waiver of sovereign immunity related to those transactions. The committee’s adoption authorizes CNB’s management to finalize documentation with lenders.
