The Marple Newtown School Board dedicated a large portion of its May 26 meeting to recognizing student achievements across grade levels, honoring winners in county and state contests in poetry, essay, STEM, mathematics and biomedical research.
Brook Tachi and Sheila Amade, teaching and learning supervisors, presented elementary awards including Delaware County Young Poets winners (Javier Reyes, Liam Wang, Jameson McMahon, Lillian Song), the Daughters of the American Revolution American History Essay first-place county finisher (Jack Tacion) and Law Day poster contest winners. Elementary students also earned placements in the Continental Mathematics League and a regional biomedical-research poster contest.
Secondary supervisors Lisa Kelly and Lauren Jvisi recognized secondary winners including Young Poets placements (Nazani Veronia, Yuron Baronian, Sydney Slokum), the PA District 7 Patriots Pen essay winner (Elena Varcis), and top mathematics and STEM contest performers. Lisa Kelly congratulated Alex Zang for advancing to the USA Mathematical Olympiad level after strong AMC/AIME results.
Superintendent remarks noted end-of-year events across six schools, potter-cup fundraising that raised more than $30,000 for pediatric cancer, senior-project presentation dates (June 2–5), commencement scheduled for June 11 at Villanova, and the last student day on June 12.
The recognitions emphasized both individual student accomplishments and teacher support; principals and teachers were invited to join students for photographs.
