Beautification award, wreaths proclamation and resident concerns highlight Brooksville meeting

At the meeting the city recognized local property restoration and veterans’ remembrance while also hearing complaints from a longtime resident.

The Beautification Board presented the Margaret Gatto beautification award to Toner and Ramirez, PA for restoring a house originally built in 1882. A representative for the recipients said they spent substantial funds to restore the home “to make it look a lot like it would have looked in 1882.” Richard Ross of the beautification board invited residents to nominate homes and businesses for the holiday lights contest.

Councilman Howell read a proclamation designating Dec. 13, 2025 as National Wreaths Across America Day in Brooksville and encouraged residents to attend the wreath‑laying ceremony at Brooksville Cemetery after the Christmas parade.

During the public‑comment period, resident Natalie Kahler recounted attempting to help recruit the Fancy Flea business to the community and said the business owner recently received a bill five times higher than expected; Kahler said the business lacks a local partner and feels “run out of this community.” Kahler also raised concern that an historical sleigh donated to the county courthouse in memory of Dr. Wilfong had been removed without notice to donors.

On operational matters, a resident (Kojak Burnett) raised a mailbox placement suggestion and several speakers, including staff, discussed the city’s phased rollout of standardized garbage cans and plans to recycle retired cans; staff said the program is starting in a specific development and that staff will publish recycling options and purchase details on social media.

The meeting included multiple reminders about community events (Christmas on Main, the tree lighting and the Christmas parade) and closed with seasonal greetings from the mayor.
