College Place reports successful block party, announces Movies in the Park schedule and seeks Valley Transit board representative

Ang Peters, who introduced herself as a College Place resident and the general manager for Valley Transit, said Valley Transit provides service for Walla Walla and College Place and that the city typically has two representatives on the federated board but currently has only one. "We are looking for someone to join Heather in the very fun work of running transit in the valley," Peters said, and offered to be available after the meeting to answer questions.
A staff member gave a summary of recent events, reporting that the spring block party had about 77 vendors and that people counters failed, but staff estimated attendance at "anywhere from 2,500 to 3,000 people, maybe more." The staff member said vendors reported brisk sales and that the Market in the Park runs Thursdays from 4 to 7 p.m. through the end of September. The city also announced a Freedom Festival on June 30 and a Movies in the Park schedule (July 25: Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning; Aug. 8: Spongebob; Aug. 22: Grease; Sept. 5: Legally Blonde; Sept. 19: Shrek).
Council members thanked staff and recommended issuing a letter of appreciation to university partners who helped with the spring jam. A council member also asked about posting a notice of potential quorum for future events so council participation can be coordinated in advance.
Peters' request that College Place fill a Valley Transit board seat will proceed through the council's usual appointment process; the transcript records the request and the city's intention to make an appointment in the near future.
