Wayland registrars recommend early in-person voting for Dec. 11 special election

The Wayland Board of Registrars voted unanimously on Nov. 3 to recommend early in-person voting for a special election scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 11, 2025. Town Clerk Trudy Reid presented a proposed three-day schedule and said the early voting would take place in the Town Clerk’s Office with voting booths set up nearby.

The recommended schedule proposed by Town Clerk Trudy Reid calls for Friday, Dec. 5, 2025, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; Monday, Dec. 8, 2025, from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; and Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2025, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Reid said that, if the registrars’ recommendation is approved, she plans to present the recommendation to the Select Board at its Nov. 17 meeting for their discussion and vote.

Reid framed the request in the statutory context of the Votes Act of 2022, explaining that the Select Board may authorize early in-person voting for a local election only when at least 50 percent of the town’s registrars recommend it, and that any such Select Board vote must occur no fewer than five business days before the proposed start of early voting. The Board’s motion to recommend early voting, which incorporated the proposed dates and times, was made, seconded and approved unanimously.

The recommendation does not itself change polling locations or hours until the Select Board acts. The registrars’ vote forwards the recommendation for the Select Board’s consideration; the Select Board will need to vote to formally authorize early in-person voting under the Votes Act requirement. The Board recorded no further changes to the schedule at the Nov. 3 meeting.
