Fire Department honors Explorer Academy participants and leaders

The council received a presentation and recognition for the Hemet Fire Department Explorers and advisers after the local department hosted the California State Fire Explorer Academy.
Interim Fire Chief Phillips and Engineer/Paramedic Samantha Harper described the weeklong academy: 108 explorers participated with about 40 advisors, and cadets completed physical training, live-fire scenarios, ladder and vehicle extrication exercises and classroom instruction. Harper called the week transformational for participants and thanked local agencies, businesses and volunteers for donations, logistics and staffing support.
The department presented a thank-you plaque to city staff and community partners and announced upcoming programs including a girls’ empowerment camp this fall.
