Town Manager to add discussion of temporary ban on marijuana delivery to a future agenda

After a change in state law allowing marijuana delivery statewide, Town Manager Paige told the Select Board Foxborough (which prohibits retail marijuana) may seek a temporary two-year waiver from the Cannabis Control Commission to bar deliveries; the board agreed to place the matter on a future agenda and may invite the health department.
Town Manager Paige told the Select Board on April 28 that a state law modernizing Massachusetts’ cannabis rules permits delivery of marijuana products in all municipalities, including those that do not allow retail stores. Because Foxborough currently prohibits retail marijuana, Paige said the town "has the option to request a waiver from the Cannabis Control Commission to temporarily prohibit delivery within its board borders for a period of up to two years with the ability to seek extensions."
Board members said they would like the full Select Board to discuss the policy and suggested inviting the health department to the discussion. One member said all five board members should have the opportunity to weigh in; another said the board could proceed with guidance from staff.
Paige said she would add the item to a future agenda so the board can consider whether to request the waiver and what public-health or enforcement questions to raise with the health department. No policy decision was made at the meeting.
