The Property Management Committee voted to forward a proposal to the full commission to name the renovated Recovery Court facility after Mary Snyder and Judge Don Ash.
The mayor told the committee that Snyder and Judge Don Ash were instrumental in founding Rutherford County—s Recovery Court and described the program as delivering "one of the greatest returns to the county" in terms of restoring families and lives. He said Snyder originated the idea after a visit to Kentucky and that the court was among the earliest in Tennessee.
Commissioner Tiffany Johnson moved to approve the naming request; the motion was seconded and carried on a roll call vote. Committee members who recorded their votes included Commissioners Davidson, Dodd, Hall, Phillips, Ervin and Anthony Johnson and the chair; all voted in favor as called on the record.
The committee noted sensitivity about creating a naming precedent. The mayor and staff said biographies for both honorees are available on SharePoint for commissioners to review before the full commission considers the proposal.
The committee forwarded the naming proposal to the full county commission for final consideration and possible formal action.
