Board of Equalization honors Lisa Thompson after 35 years leading the Taxpayer Rights Advocate office

Board members, staff and outside partners paid tribute on May 27 to Lisa Thompson, who retires after 35 years with the Board of Equalization as chief of the Taxpayer Rights Advocate office.
Thompson'whose career included roles as property appraiser, auditor and administrator'was recognized with a formal retirement resolution read into the record. Evette Sters, the executive director, described Thompson as a "trusted and compassionate advocate for numerous taxpayers across the state," and praised her work improving taxpayer education and streamlining processes with county assessors.
"You go that extra yard, Lisa, to give them the answers, to explain what's going on, and you do it with compassion," Chair Liieber said. Colleagues noted Thompson's role in publishing 15 information sheets and a disaster-relief information guide that assisted property owners after wildfires.
Principal Ryan LLC stakeholder Gina Rodriguez and other county partners also commented on Thompson's dedication to taxpayer service and professionalism. Thompson told the board she was proud of her team's publications and the office's role in helping taxpayers navigate complex property tax matters.
The board presented the resolution and remarks before a lunch recess; Thompson's last day is May 29. Members scheduled the next regular meeting for June 24—6.
