Residents press council on dredging, drainage and neighborhood road repairs

Marcy Dson said her area of 'Ward 6' is repeatedly overlooked for dredging and ditch work, reporting persistent standing water, obsolete ditches, potholes and sinkholes. She said residents often pay privately for tree trimming and expressed frustration at perceived unequal service compared with other wards.
A resident at 2055 Bonnie Drive reported that recent nearby construction and a failed DIY bulkhead have filled a canal and limited boat access; he asked the city to inspect and dredge affected canals. Doug Castro, a disabled veteran at 11186 Lake Drive, described an unpaved 150-foot road to his driveway that remains vulnerable to mud and sinkholes; he said he paid $1,000 for millings to improve access and requested guidance on city assistance for permanent work.
Staff acknowledged previous inspections, said engineering or temporary millings have been used in some spots, and noted bids are being sought for permanent asphalt repairs on Third Street. Council members asked staff to follow up and to verify whether planned Dumbar Bridge repairs are complete.
The council did not authorize immediate capital projects at the meeting but directed staff to check outstanding bids, contractor status and to follow up with residents who raised issues.
