Wausau — During the public-comment period May 26, Michael Harlson of 1812 Marav addressed the finance committee to offer a privately owned parcel adjacent to the city's Public Works operations for purchase.
Harlson said he was "representing the sale of engines" and that the owners “appreciate your willingness to buy our property” and are “very motivated to sell.” He said the parcel would be suitable for expansion of the Public Works department, that the owners would be willing to relocate to continue serving customers, and that they would put the property up for sale this year if the city did not proceed with a purchase.
Why it matters: A city purchase of land adjacent to Public Works could affect future operations, site layout and the need for relocation assistance; however, no staff report, appraisal, price or funding source was discussed during public comment.
Outcome: The comment was recorded during the public-comment portion; the committees did not take immediate action on that request in open session. Separately later in the meeting the committees moved to closed session to negotiate several other parcels for the Department of Public Works.
