He said a recent engineering report (referenced in his remarks) identified Laura Richland as a campus in need of attention and urged the district to prioritize proper athletic fields and drainage. "When you do this track field, make sure it's done properly. Make sure the water runs off and make sure it's synthetic field," Durant said, arguing that better surfaces would reduce serious injuries such as ACL tears among student athletes. He also proposed partnering with land‑grant universities on community farming and cited a personal safety concern, saying that a relative died on Bluffshot Road and calling for better signage and county/state collaboration to protect students in rural areas.
Robin Smith followed, asking that the financial report include projected completion dates for pending projects — including gym improvements, a culinary program refrigerator and the weight room — and commended district leadership for improved staff morale and responsiveness over the past year.
Board members and staff acknowledged the requests. Dr. Walker and staff agreed to follow up on project timing and to provide additional procurement/implementation details as available. The public comments concluded before the board moved on to consent items.
The remarks put attention on three follow‑ups for district staff: provide the board and the public with (1) project completion timelines for funded facilities work; (2) the referenced facilities report for parental review; and (3) any planned coordination with county or state agencies on rural road signage and safety measures.
