During the public-comment period at the Environmental Justice Council meeting on Dec. 4, 2025, multiple residents described local environmental harms and urged the council to act.
A caller speaking about the Rwood neighborhood said heavy concrete construction and ongoing dust are causing respiratory illness in the community. "I cannot breathe in the air that has so much dust," the commenter said, and asked the council what support was available and how the community could be prioritized for assistance.
Another participant said they had submitted an application more than a year earlier to become a community environmental-justice council member and requested guidance on outreach and participation. They also warned that regulatory changes expected in July could leave small and BIPOC communities without adequate protections.
An in-person commenter urged protection of a park and surrounding land from development, saying prior proposals for nearby facilities had been denied and asking the council to help preserve existing green space.
Staff responded that regulations have not yet been adopted and that there was no new regulatory information to share at the meeting, but offered to follow up and requested commenters submit contact information or queries via chat or email.
The council did not take any formal enforcement action during the meeting; staff committed to follow up with commenters and to return with additional information when available.
