Beach Grove RDC observes fallen officer, records resignation and postpones schools funding item

The Beach Grove Redevelopment Commission opened its February meeting with a moment of silence for Officer Brian Elliot, who was killed in the line of duty earlier in the week, and then noted the resignation of commissioner Phil Davis.
President Matthew Cochr announced the resignation and said the commission expects the city council to make a recommendation for a replacement at its next meeting. A commissioner said an interested resident has already expressed willingness to be considered and that swearing-in could occur at a subsequent RDC meeting.
Because school representatives who had filed RDC funding application 2026-2 were attending Officer Elliot's funeral, the commission postponed consideration of that application until its March meeting and asked Vice President Andrew Noun to review the schools' application and coordinate with staff and counsel.
David Copenh reported that the owner invited to discuss the old medical arts building redevelopment could not attend. Later in the meeting the commission recessed without objection after a tornado warning was issued and members moved to a safer location; the meeting will reconvene after the warning lifts.
