Parks director reports flooding damage, reopened restrooms and upcoming pavilion plan submission

Tom Hannon, Beech Grove parks director, told the Parks Board that seasonal mowing began but crews faced wet ground and equipment getting stuck during recent rain events. Hannon said repeated flooding washed playground mulch out at Sarah Tolton Park, though no major trees were lost.
Hannon reported that two soccer nets previously missing from storage were replaced and that restrooms affected by a water-line leak near a cell tower were back in service; a contractor had inspected the leak and repairs were expected to prevent disruption to Little League activities. Cameras for the Little League were ordered and scheduled for reinstallation the following week, he said.
Hannon said creek-bank clearing conducted before the flood helped mitigate some debris but noted that storm flows move debris downstream, accumulating at a pedestrian bridge. He also reported two small fallen trees on the Franciscan Greenway and graffiti cleaned from bridge No. 2. The parks team is meeting with the building commissioner to finalize pavilion plans for state submittal.
Hannon and board members discussed practical fixes at the Chalice trailhead where plantings did not withstand pedestrian traffic; mulch and shrubs were removed and grass seed was planted.
The board scheduled a park-property mini-bus tour for May 14 with a 6:30 p.m. meetup before the regular meeting; the Beach Grove Little League also announced a cleanup weekend and board members agreed to publicize the volunteer opportunity.
