The Laramie City Council voted 8-0, with one member absent, on May 26 to add $6,000 to the fiscal year 2027 appropriation to improve the quality of broadcast equipment for public meetings at the Municipal Operations Center.
The motion was read into the record by the city clerk: "I move to add $6,000 in appropriations to fiscal year 2027 for quality broadcast for public meetings held at the municipal operation," after which staff and the IT director described equipment options and confirmed the proposed amount could be covered by available cash reserves. "The IT director wrote that $6,000 would be enough to do whatever needed to be done to improve the quality of that broadcast," a staff member told the council.
Council members raised questions about the specific outcomes they wanted — better camera control, ease of use for operators, and overall audio-visual quality — and staff said they would seek affordable camera equipment that could be integrated with existing control-room hardware. The clerk announced the vote results: eight yeses, zero nos, one absent.
The amendment was approved as a small, targeted investment; staff said they would return to council if costs exceed the approved amount.
