Delavan swears in three new police officers

Delavan — The Delavan City Council held a ceremonial swearing‑in for three new police department members on May 20. The officers introduced were Joseph Vince, who joined the department as a community service officer on December 9, 2025 after working as a jailer in Rock County; Jacob Swadik, who began service April 27, 2026 as a reserve officer following five years with the Walworth County Sheriff’s Department and ten years of military service; and Mitchell Niles, who graduated from the police academy on the 15th and began field training on the 18th.
The police chief recounted the recruits’ on‑the‑job efforts at recent incidents — noting Vince and Swadik’s responses to accidents — and emphasized the department’s service mission. “Whenever we hire somebody we sit down for about an hour and a half ... we are going to be service‑minded,” the chief said, and added that the new officers “represent that” and “will carry that on as we move forward.”
Each officer took the oath to support the constitutions of the United States and the State of Wisconsin and to faithfully discharge the duties of a police officer; the event included a ceremonial badge pinning so family members could participate. The council welcomed the officers and thanked department leadership for the recruitments. The meeting continued with committee reports and other council business.
