Another commenter, homeowner Faye Coffield, sharply questioned nine years of city operations and how revenue has been spent. Coffield said residents have paid “well over $100 million in taxes and fees” to the city and cited what she described as specific allocations: “The city gave $1.2 million to the Board of Education” and “another $500,000 was given to DeKalb Tech,” adding that residents lack clear explanations of benefits to taxpayers. Coffield also said citizens do not know “how much was paid to settle the Metro Green lawsuit” and referenced an allegation that someone received $50,000 in that matter.
Council members did not announce new financial disclosures in response during the public-comment period. The mayor later corrected the record that the lengthy remarks were delivered by “Mr. Fife, not Councilman Fife,” reflecting confusion recorded during the meeting.
The council has not scheduled a decision on the vacant District 2 seat; the mayor said the next steps will be discussed at a later date.
