The Baldwin Village Board received a detailed update on the police department renovation and related site work as village project staff and the project representative outlined the expected schedule and next steps.
Paige said the project has completed schematic design (December–January) and is moving into design development in February and March, followed by construction documents from April through June. The board was told staff will seek two independent estimates (an SD verification estimate late January and a CD estimate in May) and aim to bid the work in July with construction potentially August through December. Underground utility locates and soil borings were planned, with borings possible as early as next Friday, contingent on contractor availability.
The board discussed utility constraints. Staff and consultants noted a three-phase electrical line between buildings that Xcel Energy expects to abandon after coordinating relocation tied to a bridge/highway project. The project team said they will confirm locations and coordinate timing so the renovation/addition does not conflict with planned utility relocation. Staff also said they are reviewing bathroom layouts and sight-line issues to refine designs.
Paige said the team has a 3D model and user-group documents complete and will perform field verification prior to final construction documents. The board asked staff to continue coordination with Xcel Energy and the Department of Transportation to avoid schedule conflicts and to return with updated cost estimates and soil-boring reports.
