Organizers working with Pillar Bank told the Baldwin Village Board they are restarting the village's Economic Development Corporation (EDC) and will hold an invitation-only organizational meeting on the 28th at noon at the bank to outline the group's purpose and recruit potential board members.
A presenter summarized the EDC's history, noting Articles of Incorporation dated May 16, 2006, and limited recorded activity since 2012. He said the EDC's bylaws emphasize job creation, business retention and expansion, coordination of future development and research into resources to support startups. "An EDC is a public-private cooperative," the presenter said, arguing that schools, the village, hospitals and private firms all have a stake in shaping local growth.
Shane Bow, identified as the bank president, urged wide stakeholder involvement and said the goal is for the community to be "out in front of" the development that is expected in coming decades. He said the group aims to coordinate efforts among local institutions and businesses so the village can manage growth rather than have it happen without community input.
Board member Worland was noted as an early volunteer to participate; staff encouraged organizers to coordinate with village administration and to return with concrete plans and invitations. The organizers plan to read through the existing bylaws at the organizational meeting and solicit interest in serving on the board.
