Bowling said he had been approached by Mr Harvey’s daughter, who "has done far more than I thought possible" and had begun exterior and some interior work.
"What I would like to recommend ... is that we consider giving them a six-month extension to allow her more time to work," Bowling said, adding that the court order would remain available for enforcement if the city needed it. Councilors debated a shorter, 90-day timeline versus six months; one council member said three months might keep momentum, while Bowling said the daughter works and needs more time.
Council accepted the six-month extension by consensus and staff said the city would not award the demolition bid while the extension is in effect; if the property regresses or progress stalls, the city would reevaluate enforcement options and could rebid demolition at that time. No formal resolution or roll-call vote was recorded at the work session; staff will bring any formal action back to a future agenda if needed.
