Council authorizes engineering contract for runway lighting, approves park change order

The Brookings City Council authorized two project-related actions on May 27: an engineering-services agreement for the Brookings Airport runway lighting replacement project and a construction change order for the Blue Cross Park pedestrian pathway.
City staff explained the airport project has secured two grants and requested authorization for Century West Engineering to provide construction-administration and engineering services during construction in the amount of $173,981. Staff reported the city's share of the engineering services as $1,739 and noted the authorization is contingent on FAA grant approval. The council moved, seconded and approved a motion authorizing the city manager to execute the agreement with Century West.
On the park project, staff requested approval of change order number one with CL Kleinfelter Contracting for concrete work on the Blue Cross Park pedestrian pathway in the amount of $33,180. Staff said that change order brings the part of the project to $58,180 against a budgeted amount of $65,000 and explained the timing depends on completion of youth sports schedules; construction is expected to resume after Little League season with major work targeting completion before soccer season and some landscaping possibly left for fall. Council authorized the change order and members asked staff to keep close watch on change order spending.
Both approvals were made by voice or recorded vote and were contingent on standard grant approvals and project scheduling.
