The Alma School District Board voted to adopt a districtwide visitor-management system that standardizes check-in, check-out and name badges and will screen visitors against high-level sex-offender registries.
Superintendent Mr Bigs outlined the recommended approach and the scope of screening. "What I recommend to do is we only screen for level three and level four sex offenders because those folks are prohibited from being on a school campus," he said, noting such cases have been rare in his experience.
Mr Bigs said the system is intended primarily as an administrative check-in and name-badge tool and that notification of any matches would go to principals and assistant principals and possibly the school resource officer depending on the situation. The board moved and seconded the superintendent'recommended policy and recorded the motion as carried.
The recorded action establishes the visitor-management policy as district practice; the administration said principals will be briefed at a principals'meeting and the district will determine the notification and SRO involvement as the policy is implemented.
