Barrington commission to seek select-board OK for Town & Trails weekend event

Members of the Barrington Conservation Commission discussed plans to coordinate a local Sunday event with the Town & Trails outreach program and said they will seek formal approval from the select board at its Monday meeting. The proposal includes a morning presentation at Barrington Elementary School, a formal opening near the town common, information tables for local organizations and the possibility of a food truck.

The commission emphasized public engagement as the goal: creating a consolidated map of town trails and a more detailed in-town map, inviting town groups to host tables, and using an online RSVP tool and social media to publicize the event. A member said the organizers hoped for "tacit sponsorship" from the town via website or social posts rather than a formal proclamation.

Commission members also discussed including the adjacent community garden on the event map and noted national organizers' openness to related themes such as electric bikes, heat-pump demonstrations and other energy-efficient technologies. The group proposed creating both a high-level trail map for the broader event listing and a more detailed map of the town center for visitors to use during the weekend.

No formal votes were recorded; the commission said it would not move forward until it receives select-board confirmation of the site and any town support. Members agreed someone on the commission would set up a Facebook event page and the Action Network RSVP if the select board approves the plan.

The commission also cleared a handful of housekeeping items related to minutes and outstanding action items before turning back to event planning. The group said it will reconsider schedule or logistics if the select board requests changes at its Monday meeting.
