Eagle Scout Andre Rondan honored for erosion-control project at Kan Woods

South Fayette Township commissioners recognized Eagle Scout Andre Rondan on March 12 for an Eagle Scout project at Kan Woods in Scott Township. Rondan said he selected a larger-scale conservation project to leave a lasting improvement: he cleared and regraded an eroded hill, rebuilt and leveled a fire pit area, installed a retaining wall and placed rocks and soil fabric to reduce weed growth and erosion, creating a safe seating area.
Rondan described several weekends of manual excavation, stone placement from a nearby creek and installation of fabric and gravel to make the area more usable and resistant to erosion. Commissioners and attendees presented a certificate and applauded his accomplishment.
Rondan said he worked with a small team for much of the work and that the site now supports seating around the fire pit and improved access.
