Petitioner wins approval to rezone 617 West Laurel for one-story triplex

Murphy said the proposed building would be similar in footprint to a duplex his group built "a couple years ago at Laurel and Buckeye," describing the building footprint and parking: "It'll be basically the same thing with off-street parking and there'll be parking in the back also." He also said each unit would be roughly half of a 64-foot footprint previously used, and that the units would include one bath.
Commissioners asked for basic design and parking details; one commissioner noted the ordinance requires about one-and-a-half parking spaces per address and observed the site appears to provide "plenty" of parking. After discussion the commission voted to carry the petition forward; the chair said the rezoning will be placed on the city council agenda for Nov. 24 at 7:00 p.m.
The approval sends the rezoning request to the city council, where the council will make the final decision on the zoning change. No formal opponents spoke during the commission hearing.
The commission then moved on to the next agenda item.
