DDA approves DNS Auto wall mural agreement and advances downtown art projects

The Downtown Development Authority voted Wednesday to approve a memorandum of agreement (DDA A26-08) for a public-art mural on the DNS Auto wall and discussed timelines for multiple other downtown art installations.
Kristen explained the agreement was forwarded by the city attorney (Amanda) and that the DDA needs to sign and notarize the contract and coordinate with Salwa, the business owner at the mural site. "It's going to make a grand statement as people are coming in from 69 into town," staff said when showing the mural image to the board. A motion to approve the agreement was moved, seconded, and approved by voice vote.
Design committee chair Shauna updated the board on additional projects: an asphalt mural on South Monroe Street (artist’s design being adjusted after municipal-services feedback); an artist-selected tiger mural to begin on Side Street; and several sculptures slated for review by City Council (one item noted a required 30-day waiting period before final placement). Board members said they hoped to time some art rollouts with seasonal events such as Octoberfest.
Courtney added that the promotions committee and staff are coordinating on installation timing; Kristen noted the artist had indicated availability within a few weeks and staff would contact the business owner to finalize logistics.
The board took no votes that altered funding levels for the art program at this meeting beyond approving the specific DNS Auto agreement (DDA A26-08). Staff will return with final schedules and executed agreements.
