Jeff Olsson and aldermen sworn in as New Albany opens new term; vice mayor retained

Mayor Jeff Olsson and several aldermen took the oath of office at a swearing-in ceremony that preceded the New Albany Board of Aldermen’s regular meeting. Olsson repeated the oath to support the Constitutions of the United States and Mississippi and pledged to "faithfully discharge the duties of the office." The oaths concluded with the customary "So help me God," and each newly sworn official was greeted with applause.
Pastor Chris Carter of First Methodist Church delivered an invocation asking for wisdom and unity for the city’s leaders. In his prayer Carter said he hoped the new term would be "a season of opportunity" and asked that leaders "lead courageously and compassionately" for the benefit of New Albany.
During the meeting the board also moved to retain Alderman Tucker as vice mayor for the 2024–2028 term; that motion was seconded and carried without recorded opposition. There were no contested leadership votes recorded.
The board then moved into department business and routine agenda items, including approvals for payments and contracts, personnel actions and departmental reports. The ceremony and the brief remarks framed the evening as a transition to the governing term ahead.
