During public comment, a resident identified as Sherry raised a forceful allegation concerning Davie County 911 Communications, saying a delay of 29 minutes in response cost a life. "Davie County 911 Communications delayed care by 29 minutes and a life was lost," Sherry said, naming the deceased as Shane Crotz and saying his daughter watched him die.
Sherry told commissioners she had previously met with County Manager Brian Barnett and said the director later went on leave; she expressed concern about frequent administrative leaves in the department and said staff morale and high turnover suggest a pattern of inadequate accountability. She asked the commissioners to become more involved and to determine whether telecommunicators are being properly guided and supervised.
The board received the comment during the public-comment period; no formal response or board action was recorded on the record at this meeting. County Manager Barnett later reminded the public that the county is StormReady and recapped other business; commissioners thanked commenters and encouraged patience on unrelated revaluation questions.
