Davie County Recreation & Parks reports increased participation, outlines master plan and $1.5M park grant

Paul Moore and the Davie County Recreation & Parks team presented their 2024 annual highlights and master-plan priorities. Moore said the department recorded 365 facility rentals, about 6,427 fee-based enrollments, and had seen a 12% increase in attendance; the program reported a net cost recovery of approximately 107% and agency cost recovery of about 23.5%.
Staff reviewed programming successes (youth volleyball growth, a new "little spikers" instructional league for younger girls, expanded mobile programming) and recent park improvements (new bleachers, refurbished splash-pad features, a mural and a new rolling gate for a ball field). Moore said the comprehensive master-plan priorities for the next five to seven years include land acquisition for future parks, advancing greenway development, branding the agency to support event tourism, and pursuing smart growth for staff and programming.
The department highlighted grant-supported projects: a $1.5 million-plus investment for the Lake Louise park project (RFQs planned in spring) and an adaptive and inclusive feature at Community Park, contracted with Great Southern Recreation McAdams and expected to be completed in spring 2026. Staff emphasized partnerships with senior programs and Special Olympics and noted volunteer contributions (more than 50 volunteers for youth leagues).
Commissioners thanked staff for the presentation; the board did not take formal action at this meeting beyond accepting the report.
