Dr. Steven Leighton and Dav Respect Initiative members introduced youth ambassadors who described projects aimed at increasing respect and inclusion across the county. "It empowers Davie youth and helps young people realize that what they say and do can really make a difference," a presenter said.
Students described specific projects: Harper led a book drive focused on graphic novels to support readers with dyslexia and classroom needs; Casey (president of Heroes of Hope) outlined a Soaring Eagles fashion show to raise funds and create opportunities for girls from troubled homes; Shan Lane described crafting projects and volunteer panels that benefit seniors and people with developmental disabilities. Presenters said the initiative also creates ambassador roles and quarterly community events.
Commissioners and audience members applauded the students. The board accepted the presentation with no formal action recorded.
