Planning staff described a downtown "pop-up" event that will temporarily convert curbside parking between 1st and 2nd Street into tree-lined vendor and outdoor-dining spaces for about 10 days as part of downtown master-plan outreach and testing.
Morsey, speaking during planning updates, said the City of Jenks will host the event starting next Friday and that merchants and property owners adjacent to the converted stalls may bring goods or provide outdoor dining during spring break. "We're taking the parking stalls from 1st to 2nd Street, and we're going to line them with trees and beautiful plants," Morsey said, adding that the city will provide parking guidance and a QR code on the website to help motorists find alternatives.
Morsey noted the pop-up is a pilot: "No decisions have been made. No decisions have been made," and framed it as a way to let the public experience design options before formal recommendations are made to the council. Staff also said public feedback during the master-plan process showed strong support for removing curbside parking on Main Street and for parallel parking as a favored layout.
The commission welcomed a newly appointed commissioner and closed the meeting after the updates. No formal policy changes were proposed or adopted during the meeting; staff emphasized the event is temporary and intended to inform potential future recommendations.
