The Lower Pottsgrove Township Police Chief reported to the board that detectives arrested a suspect in an early-morning burglary and sexual assault of a 91-year-old resident.
“We responded to Terrace Hill Court for a report of an assault victim,” the Police Chief said, adding that investigators quickly learned of a related incident in Pottstown and coordinated with county and borough detectives. The chief identified the arrested man as Derell Williams and said he has been charged with rape, burglary and theft and is being held in the Montgomery County Prison on $5 million bail.
The chief told commissioners that detectives and patrol officers invested substantial investigative hours, and that the arrest reflected cooperation among municipal, borough and county law-enforcement agencies. He also said the department took delivery of a new police vehicle at the end of April and that routine training continued.
The board did not vote on operational matters tied to the case during the meeting; the chief pointed to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office press release for additional details and said that office’s release spells out the charges and sequence of events.
The board’s discussion ended with public thanks from commissioners to the police department for the arrest and investigative work.
