Historic commissioners plan a story map to highlight Black historic sites

A staff member said she and Joyce collaborated on five entries — Depot Square hotels, the Dwar's hotel/ranch, the Hunter Street playground, the Rigy Hotel and 13 Hunter Street — and condensed longer drafts to 150–200 word summaries intended for web display with archival photos.
Members debated whether the content should live on the Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) page or on a separate, dedicated map. Staff noted the webmaster has produced a similar story map for development projects and that Mr. Casey and the webmaster (Jamie Hoffman) would provide technical signoff. Commissioners agreed a dedicated map, with hot links and pop-up descriptions, would be useful and that the commission could expand entries over time.
A staff member said a state grant set aside for Black history projects had been forwarded and could support a more robust "museum in the streets" project with QR-code signage if funding is secured. Commissioners asked whether web analytics could show how many users visit the HPC homepage; staff said the webmaster could report homepage click counts but more granular click-path data might be limited.
The commission asked staff to continue refining copy and images; the goal is to have an initial online version available for review by the next meeting pending technical signoff.
