Foxborough approves amendment to intermunicipal sewer agreement with Sharon to extend term to 99 years

The Foxborough Select Board voted May 4 to approve an amendment to the intermunicipal sewer agreement with the town of Sharon that extends the agreement’s term from 25 years to 99 years. Staff said a special act authorizing the extension was approved by the state House and Senate on Dec. 19, 2024.
Chris (staff) explained the allocation of responsibilities: Foxborough will continue to operate and maintain the gravity sewer system in Sharon and will collect sewer revenue tied to those customers. Work on a private force main associated with the Sharon Gallery project remains the private entity’s responsibility, and any force‑main repairs or obligations fall to that private owner.
The board moved to approve the amended and reinstated intermunicipal agreement and to authorize the town manager to execute it on behalf of Foxborough. The motion passed with all members present voting in favor.
Board members asked clarifying questions about who pays for repairs and how revenue is handled; staff said revenue and operation fall to Foxborough under the amended agreement but that private entities are responsible for their force main sections.
