At 4:17 p.m., Commissioner Fioro called the regular meeting of the Prospect Heights Fire Police Commission to order and the commission approved minutes from June 26 by voice vote.
Commissioners and staff noted Chairperson Hoffman was absent with notice. Deputy Clerk Lloyd Austin and others recorded that Assistant City Administrator Peter Falcone was also absent; a staff member stated they were standing in for Falcone.
The commission heard several departmental updates. Staff reported that the police department’s interior has been repainted and fitted with new furniture, described in the meeting as a silver-gray finish, and that a wall now separates investigations from patrol to provide privacy for interviews and evidence handling. Members were told a recently hired officer completed training, plans to take a short honeymoon and will begin field training upon return; the commission said the department is at full staff for the first time in several years.
Commissioners discussed ongoing recruiting challenges, noting that candidates on the list often accept other jobs before openings occur and that the commission will likely need to reopen recruitment when vacancies arise. Commissioners also asked about a response from a testing vendor regarding a filter mechanism; staff said they will refine the department’s requirements before reuse and will arrange alternatives if the vendor cannot accommodate them.
The commission was told it will advertise a full-time records clerk position with benefits, likely for an afternoon/evening shift. Postings were described as planned for the Prospect Heights city web page, the Prospect Heights Police Facebook page and possibly on the Blue Line policing jobs board.
There were no public comments. The commission scheduled its next meeting for Aug. 28 and then voted to adjourn.
Votes at a glance: a motion to approve the June 26 minutes was made, seconded and approved by voice vote; a motion to adjourn was also made, seconded and approved by voice vote. The transcript records both outcomes as "all in favor" without a roll-call tally.
Next steps: staff will post the records clerk position and refine testing/filter requirements as discussed.
