Alderman raises safety concerns about North Frontage Road detour; chief increases patrol presence

During the communications portion of the June 17 meeting Alderman Mary told the council that residents have raised concerns about the North Frontage Road curve-correction project and the associated detour. She said people are becoming accustomed to the detour but expressed concern about speeding where motorists re-enter local streets, particularly now that school is out and more children are walking and biking.
Alderman Mary said she appreciated the responsiveness of staff and noted that she and another official rode affected streets and observed safety risks. According to the mayor’s remarks in the same segment, Chief Thomas responded by increasing squad-car presence and issuing reminders about speed enforcement in the area to reduce risks for pedestrians and bicyclists.
"Chief Thomas was responsive to having more presence of squad cars and reminders of the speed," Alderman Mary said, according to the meeting record.
Council did not take a formal action at the June 17 meeting on the North Frontage Road project or on new traffic engineering measures; the discussion was recorded as communications and staff follow-up was suggested.
